Monthly Dependent-Based Survivor Benefits
Your beneficiaries may be eligible for monthly dependent-based survivor benefits if you die before retiring from PSRS and if at the time of your death:
- You had five or more years of credit for employment covered by PSRS, or
- You had at least two, but fewer than five years of credit and died:
a. While in PSRS-covered employment, or
b. As a result of an injury or sickness incurred while working in PSRS-covered employment and within one year of the onset of the injury or sickness, or
c. While you are eligible for PSRS disability retirement benefits.
In order to be eligible for monthly dependent-based survivor benefits, your beneficiaries must also meet certain qualifications. Dependent-based survivor benefit payment amounts are calculated as a percentage of your last full year of salary, with minimum and maximum limits.
